Pricing For

The first question we always get from clients needing a new system is “How Much?” The answer is “It depends.”

Figuring out New Residential HVAC System Cost

Residential HVAC

  • Your budget price range for replacing your heat pump air handler and outdoor unit is between $15,000 and $30,000.
  • The biggest factor in price is size and the unit efficiency, large homes with higher efficient systems will easily be over $20,000.
  • Other factors that affect price are: unit location (distance between air handler and outdoor unit, and electrical panel); indoor air handler access and condensate system; electrical requirements to the outdoor unit; extended warranty; and proper ducting to ensure warm/cool air gets to where it needs to be.
  • Your budget price range for adding an air conditioner to your gas/propane furnace is between $14,000 and $25,000. If you replace an existing air conditioning system and have electrical wiring in place, it could be less. If you upgrade to adding a new heat pump to the gas/propane furnace it could go up to $30,000.
  • The biggest factor in price is size and the unit efficiency, large homes with higher efficient systems will easily be over $20,000.
  • Other factors that affect price are: unit location (distance from furnace and electrical panel); indoor coil access and condensate system; electrical requirements to the outdoor unit; if the gas/propane furnace needs replacing also; extended warranty; and proper ducting to ensure cool air gets to where it needs to be.
  • Your budget price range should start at $9,000 for a single zone, and the upper end can reach $50,000 or more with multiple unit systems.
  • The biggest factor in price is size, unit efficiency, and number of indoor heads and outdoor units (up to five heads per outdoor unit).
  • Other factors that affect price are: unit locations (distance of heads to outdoor unit, and electrical panel); electrical requirements to the outdoor unit; extended warranty; condensate system (if on interior wall will need pumps, but gravity is fine on external walls).
  • Your budget price range for replacing your gas/propane furnace is between $6,000 and $12,000.
  • The biggest factor in price is blower & burner stages. Single stage units are relatively inexpensive and variable speed units can get much more expensive.
  • Other factors that affect price are: indoor air quality requirements (electronic vs. paper filters); venting replacement; supply and return air ductwork; and extended warranty.
  • Your budget price range for replacing your gas/propane furnace is between $7,000 and $15,000.
  • See above for factors affecting price and add to that condensate system requirements.

Residential Electrical

  • Adding a sub-panel to an existing main panel is around $3,000. The farther from the main panel the more expensive.
  • Replacing a 200-amp main panel is about $6,000 if there is no amperage increase.
  • Increasing panel amperage will start at $8,000 depending on the amperage increase and location of new panel. Costs with your utility will apply also.
  • A basic electrical disconnect, where you connect your own generator to the main panel, will start at $1,500.
  • A 7-9 KW generator that keeps your refrigerator, furnace and master bedroom going will start at $15,000. Factors that can affect price: Amperage needed, distance from panel, size of generator, automatic transfer switch (ATS).
  • A whole home generator (KW varies) should have a $25,000 budget minimum, with the above factors included here. The biggest difference is the size of the generator.
